The iPhone SE line dangled in the background of history for several years until Apple pulled off a strange trick in 2020 by releasing the updated iPhone SE 2020. It turned out to be the most controversial and at the same time the most popular smartphone of the year.

The reason for the people's love was the dimensions. Smartphone manufacturers stubbornly ignore the fact that there are millions of people in the world who, for one reason or another, do not like giant smartphones. Apple has taken these cues to heart by releasing a classic, compact iPhone that can be freely held in the palm of your hand and reached to the edges of the screen with one finger.

At the same time, the smartphone has been thoroughly modernized. It is equipped with modern hardware from the iPhone Xr, two SIM card slots, an “affordable” price tag and the current version of iOS. The smartphone has a sixth-generation Wi-Fi receiver, the case is water resistant (can withstand immersion in a metre for 30 minutes), and the battery supports wireless charging.

At the same time, the iPhone SE 2020 is far from the level of older models. The front camera and the main camera send greetings from 2017, when double and triple modules have not yet become fashionable. Although the overall quality of the photos did not suffer much from this and the camera shoots almost at the level of the iPhone 11. The design of the device with thick side frames looks outdated. And the display here is unusually simple and unpretentious without Super, True Tone and other familiar goodies.

In combination with the price, such equipment caused a mixed reaction from buyers. The idea of paying $600 for a device with an outdated design, a simple HD display and a mediocre camera at the level of 2017 seemed dubious to say the least. Indeed, for this money on Android, you can buy a near-top Android device of the caliber OnePlus 7 Pro or Xiaomi Mi 10.
