The base version of the 17th-generation iPhone, introduced in 2025. Compared to previous generations, it brings a number of significant improvements that bring it closer to previous-generation iPhone Pro models. Compared to iPhone 16 it is equipped with a larger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR (LTPO) display with an OLED panel. The display has a resolution of 2622x1206 pixels, delivers peak brightness up to 3000 nits, and boasts a 120 Hz refresh rate (ProMotion).
The manufacturer places special emphasis on the updated, more durable Ceramic Shield 2 cover glass, as well as support for Always-On, which previously appeared only in iPhone Pro and iPhone Max models. iPhone 17 is powered by the new six-core Apple A19 (up to 4.26 GHz) with a 5-core GPU. RAM is 8 GB, the minimum internal storage is now 256 GB, and as is traditional for Apple there is no memory card slot.
The smartphone is equipped with a dual Apple Fusion camera: the 48 MP main (f/1.6) module; the 48 MP ultra-wide (f/2.2) lens. The front camera features a square 18 MP sensor that captures more data and preserves high quality even during automatic rotation and zoom. One of the standout features is Center Stage, which automatically switches between landscape and portrait orientation during selfie shooting so the user doesn’t have to rotate the phone in hand. In terms of connectivity, the smartphone supports 5G, e-SIM, Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and satellite communication. For charging, there is wired Power Delivery 3.0 up to 40 W or wireless Qi2 at 15 W. The body traditionally offers IP68 water resistance.

Switched to the iPhone 17 after the 13 mini — and the difference is huge. Finally, a proper screen size where everything is clear, yet the phone is comfortable in hand. After the 13 mini, it seems like the phone has become smarter, more comfortable, and significantly more "mature." This is the first basic model to truly have Pro-level features — a 120 Hz display, improved cameras, modern communication modules, and new buttons that make it much easier to control. Finally, the basic model doesn't look "simplified" — it has all the key features of the flagships while maintaining ease and convenience of use. The display is bright, smooth, very clear. After the 13 mini, the difference is simply colossal — your eyes don't get tired even after prolonged use. The cameras — the quality of photos and videos is impressive. Even in the evening, the shots are clear with natural colors. Portraits come out like they’re from a studio. 256 GB storage — finally, you don't have to think about the cloud or deleting photos. Performance speed — everything opens instantly, even heavy apps. The phone doesn't heat up and works very stably. New buttons — very convenient! You can customize them to your liking: for instance, quick access to the camera, note-taking, or flashlight. Design and green color — looks expensive, yet calm and classy at the same time. The body feels pleasant to the touch, not slippery. Sound — loud and spacious, you can feel the quality even without headphones. And in headphones, it's absolutely amazing. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 — stable connection, fast internet, no interruptions. The battery lasts about a day with active use. If you take a lot of photos or videos, it's better to have a power bank. The charging block is not included. This is already standard for Apple, but it's still a pity. The price is high, although the quality completely justifies the expense. One of the main improvements in the iPhone 17 compared to the 16th is the display. The new screen is not only larger but finally supports ProMotion technology, just like all Pro models. It can refresh at a rate from 1 to 120 Hz depending on what's on the screen. Everything looks much smoother on the phone now, from games to videos. The iPhone 17 display now has some anti-glare properties, promising fewer reflections under various lighting conditions (especially in sunlight). Although the effect is not as strong as on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Thanks to the new screen - Apple has also finally added the Always-On feature to the basic iPhone 17, which was previously only found in the iPhone Pro series. Moreover, this mode can be customized to choose whether to display the wallpaper, blur photos on the wallpaper, and whether to show notifications.
The main camera of the iPhone 17 is exactly the same as last year's iPhone 16. But the wide-angle camera in the iPhone 17 is finally new: instead of the 12-megapixel module that has been used since the iPhone 11, Apple engineers used the Sony IMX972 sensor with a resolution of 48 megapixels. In practice, photos from the wide-angle lens have become slightly better.
The main highlight among the iPhone 17 cameras is the brand new front camera, its update looks much more significant and interesting than that of the rear camera. Here, the quality of selfie photos has noticeably improved.
It's nice that now the basic model has 256GB of memory, not 128GB as before, and this with the same price.
