As for the practical side, the most popular way to use this feature is to authenticate a user when unlocking a smartphone, logging into an account, authorizing payments, etc. However, the matter is not limited to this — other, more unique use cases are also possible. For example, in some applications, the face scanner reads the user's facial expressions, and then this facial expression is repeated by a smiley on the phone screen.

Also note that initially "Face ID" is the name of Apple's proprietary technology. However, nowadays, this name is often used colloquially as a common noun — to refer to similar features in all smartphones, not just Apple ones.
