P-OLED
— displays built using organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), in which the base is not glass, but a transparent polymer material (the letter P in the name just means "polymer"). We emphasize that we are talking about the base of the panel; on top it is covered with the same glass as in other types of screensThe use of polymers gives such displays a number of advantages over "regular" OLEDs (see related paragraph). First of all, the screen is more impact resistant: even if the outer glass coating breaks, the base is likely to remain intact. In addition, due to its flexibility, such a base is perfect for curved screens. On the other hand, in terms of optical properties, plastic still falls short of glass; so although the image on such screens is quite high quality, however, in terms of brightness and colour saturation, it is still inferior to the picture from traditional OLED panels. The situation can be corrected, but this significantly affects the cost of the display, which is already quite high. Therefore, nowadays, P-OLED screens are not particularly popular.
