— a subseries of games from the Colin McRae Rally family — racing simulators by Codemasters dedicated to rally-type car races. The very first Dirt (Colin McRae: DiRT), released in 2007 for PC, PS3, and Xbox, is the sixth installment and the last game in the series created in collaboration with the famous racer Colin McRae. Due to McRae's death in the same year, subsequent games in the series were released under the DiRT brand, without the "Colin McRae" prefix, although they retained the series' traditions.As of the end of 2019, the DiRT series itself includes seven games. These mainly consist of classic rally simulators, with the exception of the "no rules racing" DiRT Showdown (2012). The Colin McRae Rally games in general, and DiRT in particular, are highly praised by critics and fans, with some titles considered benchmarks of thematic simulators. Additionally, some games, besides the traditional career mode, also include quite unusual formats, including multiplayer — for example, the "Epidemic" and "Invasion" game modes in DiRT 3.
