Street Fighter

— the classic fighting game series from Capcom holds a cult status among fans and was once one of the pioneering sources of the genre as a whole.

Gameplay in Street Fighter, traditionally for games of the genre, is based on performing hand-to-hand combat moves and countering opponent attacks during arena battles. Different games feature various additions that bring diversity to the gameplay. For example, in Street Fighter V, there is an energy gauge used for special moves, a "stun" gauge that, when filled, causes the character to freeze temporarily and become immobile, and a V-Gauge that accumulates resources for counterattacks and additional moves.

The first game in the series was released back in 1987, and since then, five sub-series have been released for a wide range of platforms, plus various spin-offs. Among the latest, most recent titles (as of 2019) are Street Fighter V from 2016 for Windows, SteamOS, and PS4, as well as Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers from 2017 for Switch. The latter is notable for allowing the use of both modern and "classic" styles, with pixel graphics and voiceovers for the original arcade machines. However, it received mixed reviews, whereas Street Fighter V was warmly received by both critics and audiences.
