Watch Dogs

— a series of open-world action-adventure games that uses quite original game mechanics at the time of release: the gameplay is based primarily on hacking various computer systems. Thus, you can reconfigure various devices and even elements of urban infrastructure (traffic lights, lighting, plumbing, etc.) to achieve your goals, as well as receive various additional information.

For 2019, the series includes two main games released in 2014 and 2016 for Windows, PS and Xbox (the first part is also for Wii U). The action of these games takes place respectively in Chicago and San Francisco, where the system of "general city management" — ctOS, was introduced, which controls almost the entire infrastructure and contains detailed data on all residents. Both ctOS elements and many other devices equipped with more or less advanced control electronics can be hacked. The gameplay does not exclude the use of weapons, but the main emphasis is still on stealth and the use of the environment. For example, so that the target does not hide by car, you can turn off the traffic lights at a major intersection and arrange an accident with a traffic jam; to enter a protected area, you can turn off the lights or hack surveillance cameras, etc.

Both parts of Watch Dogs were well received by critics and players alike; the first part, even before the release, received more than one and a half hundred awards and nominations. Of the merits of the series, critics emphasize the innovative gameplay, the freedom to choose how to complete most missions, as well as the vast and vibrant game world.
