— konami's football simulation series is a direct competitor to EA Sports' FIFA games and one of the most successful gaming franchises in sports simulations and in general. It has been produced since 2001, traditionally for such series, a new game is released every year and takes into account the changes that have taken place over the year in the football world.

In addition to the matches themselves, there are many management elements in individual game modes: for example, in the Master League mode, in order to develop a team, you need to train players and make transfers, and the characteristics of players can change right during the game depending on experience and age. It is also worth noting the extensive possibilities for editing players and teams; in particular, in the latest titles there is a whole league with 18 conditional teams that allow changing all possible parameters at the request of the player. This league in the games of the series replaces the German Bundesliga, with which Konami failed to negotiate a licensing agreement.

Actually, licensing is one of the weak points of PES: in terms of the volume of licensed content, this series is inferior to the same FIFA, and many elements (from leagues, players and clubs to uniforms and balls) have been replaced by some conditional analogues. Thus, many unofficial patches are being released by the fan community to correct the situation; formally, these patches are copyright infringement and Konami is trying in every possible way to fight them, but this does not stop enthusiasts.
