This includes Doom (DOOM, unofficially known as Doom 4), released in 2016 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One (in 2017 for Nintendo Switch and VR devices), as well as its sequel Doom Eternal, released at the end of 2019. These titles are fundamentally different from modern shooters like Battlefield or Call Of Duty, adhering to the principles of the original Doom: dynamic and spectacular battles against hordes of monsters, a high level of violence, linear levels with simple puzzles. An extensive set of multiplayer modes was also introduced, including quite unusual ones ("King of the Hill" with a moving "hill" and the ability introduced in Doom Eternal to play as monsters in another player's single-player campaign), and the additional software package includes a level creation utility accessible even to non-specialists.
