The Sims

— a series of life simulation games by The Sims Studio (in earlier parts by Maxis). It is not only the most famous brand in its genre but also one of the most successful franchises in the entire history of video games. In the main games of the series, the player is tasked with managing one or more virtual characters ("Sims"), arranging their homes, ensuring their well-being, facilitating career growth, social interactions, and so on. The player can either observe the automatic behavior of the characters or give them direct commands. There are no strictly defined goals in the main games, although they may be provided in certain expansions and spin-offs. The first game in the series was released back in 2000 and, despite a limited budget and outdated graphics, was a resounding success, ranking first in the list of best-selling games of all time in 2002. As of 2019, the list of main titles includes only 4 games (numbered), with the newest part, The Sims 4, having been released in 2013. This situation is compensated by the abundance of expansions released for each part; these expansions introduce both new items and additional gameplay modes and storylines (exploring landmarks, building a career, caring for pets, etc.). For example, by 2019, The Sims 3 had 11 expansion packs and 9 stuff packs released, and for the fourth part (as of the end of 2019) — 8 expansions and 15 stuff packs. All main parts of the series are available for Windows, PS, and Xbox; multiple spin-offs are mainly released for smartphones and portable consoles, occasionally for desktop consoles, and very rarely for PCs.
