Wolfenstein series games

Wolfenstein

— the famous shooter series, one of the longest-running series in the entire history of video games. The first game was released back in 1981, and in 1992 the legendary Wolfenstein 3D was released, which is considered by many to be the founder of the first-person shooter genre. In the later parts, elements of stealth action were added to the classic battles.

For 2019, the series includes the main 12 games for desktop platforms, two of which were released in the same year (Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot), and three previous ones — in 2014, 2015 and 2017. All of these games are available for PC and PS, with some also available for Xbox and Nintendo Switch; a kind of exception is Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, created specifically for virtual reality devices.

In most games in the series (with the exception of the earliest ones), the player will take on the role of an American agent, B.J. Blaskowitz, who performs tasks against various structures of the Third Reich; in the later games, BJ's daughters are the protagonists. At the same time, elements of fantasy and mysticism appear already in Wolfenstein 3D; and starting with Wolfenstein: The New Order 2014, the game takes place in an alternative version of our world, in which Nazi Germany was not defeated in the war, but, on the contrary, took over the whole world. The alternative reality of the game is distinguished by highly developed technologies: already in the 1960s, the hero is confronted by cybersoldiers and drones, and in Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot you have to play as a hacker hacking combat robots in Paris in 1980.

Most of the games in the series available for sale at the end of 2019 received high marks from critics and players. An exception is the latest games — Wolfenstein: Youngblood and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot mentioned above: the first, in particular, is often compared with a spin-off, and not with a full-fledged continuation, as it is initially positioned.
