— the famous series of racing games produced by Electronic Arts since 1994. It is one of the most successful series not only in its genre, but also among games in general — due to the combination of dynamic gameplay with an abundance of additional "chips", as well as an extensive selection of cars based on real models.

Races, which are the basis of the gameplay, in different parts of the series have different specifics and a common style. So, in some games strictly limited tracks are used, in others the player is given the freedom to move around the city. The control and damage model can be both real and simplified. Almost mandatory is the possibility of tuning cars — both functional and visual. In addition to traditional races on winding tracks, specific modes such as drift or drag racing are often provided. Also, police chases are considered one of the "calling cards" of the series (although they are not available in all games). By default, the player in such chases drives the intruder's car, although some games provide the option to also play as a police officer.

As of 2019, a total of 25 mainline games have been released in the Need For Speed series, mostly multi-platform (excluding select Windows-only titles).
