— a shooter/survival horror series created by Ukrainian developer 4A Games based on the eponymous series of post-apocalyptic novels by Russian writer Dmitry Glukhovsky. The action initially takes place in the Moscow metro, which, after a global nuclear war, became a refuge for the remnants of the city's population. At the same time, the survivors are forced to confront not only radiation and pollution, but also the monsters generated by nuclear winter. You have to play as one of the inhabitants of the metro — Artyom, the main character of the first book of the cycle, "Metro-2033". Actually, the first part of the game has the same name and generally repeats the plot of the book; the subsequent ones are not based on novels and follow a separate storyline, and Glukhovsky himself was directly involved in its creation. The plot is mostly linear, however, by the third part, open locations appear with the possibility of free exploration. In the second and third parts, variants of "good" and "bad" endings appear, depending on the actions of the player. The original series includes three games — Metro 2033 (2010), Metro: Last Light (2013) and Metro: Exodus (2019). The first game was released for the main PC operating systems (Windows, Linux, macOS), as well as for Xbox, the rest — for Windows, PS and Xbox. In 2014, the first two installments were released as a remaster of Metro Redux, introducing overhauled graphics and improved enemy intelligence, as well as (for Metro 2033) new difficulty modes. This edition is the most extensive in terms of the set of available platforms, it includes the 3 mentioned operating systems for PC, as well as PS4 and Xbox One consoles.
In general, Metro is one of the most successful shooter/survival horror franchises in general and the most successful (for 2019) among similar games from developers from the CIS. All games received high marks, especially for the original setting with rich atmosphere (although some reviewers still found it "not scary enough").
