— the famous racing game series, released by Electronic Arts since 1994. It is one of the most successful series not only in its genre but also among games in general, thanks to the combination of dynamic gameplay with a wealth of additional "features," as well as a wide selection of cars based on real models.

The races, which are the core of the gameplay, have different specifics and overall style in different parts of the series. For example, some games use strictly limited tracks, while others give the player the freedom to move around the city. The control and damage model can be either realistic or simplified. The ability to tune cars—both functionally and visually—is almost mandatory. In addition to traditional races on winding tracks, specific modes like drifting or drag racing are often provided. Police chases are also considered one of the series' "trademarks" (although they are not available in all games). By default, the player controls the offender's car in such chases, although some games allow playing as a police officer as well.

As of 2019, a total of 25 main games have been released in the Need For Speed series, mostly multiplatform (with the exception of some titles only for Windows).
