Mortal Kombat

— a cult series of fighting games that dates back to the era of slot machines and has become one of the most successful franchises of this genre. In the plot and setting, the theme of oriental mythology and Asian martial arts is widely used, and the game also includes certain elements of fantasy and science fiction. The "calling card" of the series is a system of finishing off a defeated enemy by quickly pressing a certain series of buttons. Initially, this system was represented by the Fatality mode (spectacular and bloody killing of a half-dead opponent), later other special moves appeared such as Animality (turning the winner into a beast), Brutality (finishing off with a long series of various blows) and even "peaceful" Babality (turning the loser into a baby) and Friendship (friendship proposal). In addition, the games are famous for numerous secrets, references and Easter eggs.

The modern era for the Mortal Kombat series was ushered in in 2011, with the release of MK9 and the reboot of the series. In 2019, apart from this game, two more parts were released in the series — MK X in 2015 (plus the addition of XL a year later) and MK 11 in 2019. The games are available on PC, PS and Xbox, the ninth part is also on PS Vita, and the eleventh part is on Switch.
