It is also worth noting that while console games are mainly sold on discs, a different format is more popular for PC games: the user buys only an activation key or subscription, and downloads the game directly from the developer's website or another online storage. However, in collector's editions (see "Additional"), a more traditional format is often provided, with an optical disc as the medium.
