Devices with such specifications are able to withstand without consequences not only prolonged immersion under water to a significant depth, but also being under a high-pressure washer with hot water (or in other similar conditions). In practice, such capabilities can be useful to people whose activities are related to extreme situations – rescuers, firefighters, military personnel, etc. Among “civilian” professions, such high protection will come in handy when working with chemicals, high pressure and temperature (for example, in the food industry). But for ordinary underwater use there is hardly any point in purchasing such a device – for this, the IP68 protection level is quite sufficient (see the relevant paragraph), which is much cheaper.
Even though IP69K is a higher number, it does not mean it has higher protection than IP68. It is also worth considering that specific restrictions on depth and duration of stay under water (and in other extreme conditions) for different models in this category may differ. It is important to clarify these details in the official documentation.
