Adventures

— quite an extensive category, that covers several subspecies of games that are very noticeably different from each other. A common feature of all these games is the presence of a plot that plays a key role in the gameplay, but the gameplay itself can be different, according to this parameter, the following options can be distinguished:

— Action-adventure — games that have the features of a shooter or traditional action (see the relevant paragraph) In Russian-language sources, "adventure" usually means games of this type. Examples are Red Dead Redemption, Dishonored (with RPG elements), GTA (with racing, in addition to shooting).

— Quests — it was from this genre that the term "adventure games" came from, in English-language sources, the phrase "adventure game" often means quests. The main gameplay in such games is solving puzzles (from the simplest to the most intricate), often without time limits; control is often carried out in the point'n'click format, with only one mouse.

— Platformers. Games, often also called "arcade" (although the term "arcade" is more extensive, it describes not so much a genre as a game mode). Its own name comes from the fact that in the classic version of such a game, the character has to jump a lot between platforms hanging in the air. Initially, platform games were two-dimensional, some representatives of the genre still remain true to this format; later came 3D games, usually with a third-person view.
