Role playing game (RPG)

— games in which the player controls a character or several characters that have a certain set of characteristics. Characteristics grow as you progress through the story and the complexity of the game grows, and in most cases the growth is controlled by the user himself — choosing which parameters to pump in the first place. In classic RPGs, victory or defeat is determined mainly by the level of character development and depends little on the skills of the player himself. However, there are role-playing games where the gameplay is based on action or a shooter — in them, the weakness of characteristics can be compensated for by coordination, reaction speed and a competent choice of tactics. Examples include The Elder Scrolls series and modern versions of Fallout. However, pumping is also needed in such games — otherwise the player’s weapon will not be able to deal enough damage, he will not be able to repel attacks, complete quests related to certain skills, etc.

Note that the degree of freedom of a character in an RPG can be different — from a strictly defined role in an unchanged plot to a completely open world with almost complete freedom of action.
