The main advantage of transflective screens is a significant reduction in power consumption compared to conventional LCD matrices — after all, it is the backlight that consumes most of the energy, and in such displays, it is used much less frequently than in conventional ones. This is especially important for compact wearable gadgets that are difficult to equip with high-capacity batteries. In addition, such displays are perfectly visible even in bright sunlight, while a conventional LCD screen, can be hard to see even when the brightness is set to maximum. Turning the backlight on and off can be controlled both manually and automatically through a light sensor (depending on the model).
