The ability to give commands to the device by touching the screen significantly expands the control functionality, makes it more convenient and intuitive. Firstly, a wide variety of controls (buttons, sliders, counters, etc.) can be displayed on the touch screen, and in each situation this may be its own, most appropriate set of such elements. Secondly, for scrolling through lists, moving between menu items, viewing data from a navigator and some other tasks, such control is more suitable than buttons, rotary elements and other mechanical options (in some models with touch displays, such elements may not be available at all). On the other hand, displays with such capabilities are noticeably more expensive than conventional displays and, usually, consume more energy — both due to the presence of a sensor, and due to the fact that the panels themselves are usually made in colour and have a fairly high resolution.
