In the simplest models, the memory card plays the role of a user drive; the gadget’s own storage is closed, only the firmware is stored there and its contents are not available to the user. In more advanced wearable devices, the memory card serves as an addition to the built-in storage; and although removable media are slower than built-in storage, they are much more profitable in terms of capacity and price.

Also note that the card slot not only allows you to add additional storage to the gadget, but also facilitates the exchange of data with other devices — support for such cards is often found in smartphones and tablets, and in larger equipment, miniature cards can be used with special adapters.
