Portable SSDs are gradually gaining popularity due to the successful combination of high performance and miniature size, so more and more manufacturers are paying attention to this segment. Corsair also decided not to stand aside, announcing the launch of a new family of EX external SSDs in early 2023. The company said that they were targeting the widest possible range of users, be they artists, videographers, coders or lawyers, so they decided to focus on accessibility, convenience and performance of their drives.

All members of the Corsair EX family are built on 3D TLC NAND memory, and typically use a Class 3.2 gen2x2 USB interface for data exchange. Thanks to standard formatting, they are recognized right out of the box by all popular operating systems, including Mac OS and Windows, without forcing the user to install drivers or additional software. To make life easier for the potential owner, the manufacturer usually bundles each PD drive with several USB cables with A and C connectors.

The history of the CX brand began with the EX100U drive, which to this day remains the main bestseller in the series. This is one of the smallest external drives in our memory (80x36x11 mm with a weight of 22 g), which can be put into literally any free pocket in a sweater, jeans or shirt, as if it were an ordinary flash drive. Otherwise, this is a completely familiar portable SSD with support for the USB C 3.2 gen2x2 interface, a maximum write speed of 1500 MB/s and a wide selection of available memory sizes. The only negative is that the manufacturer did not take care of hardware data encryption and backup software. This may be corrected in 2024 models.

Most drives in this family are available in models with 1, 2 and 4 TB of storage.
