In 2023, SanDisk introduced a new line of professional G-Drive drives, which included high-tech, highly secure and wickedly fast portable SSD drives, created for people who are not ready to put up with the typical limitations of this format. The key feature of these drives is the combination of a high-quality shockproof case, extensive functionality and modern hardware capable of operating at speeds from 1000 to 3000 MB/s. By comparison, most competitors fly at speeds between 500 and 1000 MB/s.

A typical G-Drive is a moderately compact drive in a rubberized anodized aluminum casing, which is designed to reduce heating of the control controller during long data transfer operations. As a rule, the case is protected from accidental ingress of dust and moisture according to the IP67 standard. In some cases, the case may also be shockproof. On the software side, protection is provided by 256-bit AES-XTS hardware encryption and a key management function based on the NIST P-256 elliptic curve. In addition to this, complete with G-Drive drives, the manufacturer supplies specialized ArmorLock software to block access to data for certain users.

As the basis for the series, the manufacturer selects exclusively high-quality SSD drives with 96-layer 3D TLC NAND flash memory, custom controllers and support for the NVMe protocol, without which it is difficult to organize data exchange at speeds above 1000 MB/s. Add to this list support for the Thunderbolt interface with a solid warranty period (note: at least 5 years) and a wide choice of available memory sizes and you get a more than worthy alternative to premium portable SSDs from the WD My Passport, SanDisk Extreme and Samsung Portable families.
