For 2021, Apple has redesigned its premium Apple Watch 7 smartwatch, updated the display, and added some interesting secondary features. A year later, the Apple Watch 8 came out, which was limited to rather cosmetic improvements, without fundamental changes. In particular, a high-precision body thermometer with a step of 0.1 degrees Celsius was added to the existing sensors, and the accuracy of the Crash Detection system was increased using a modified three-axis gyroscope and a responsive accelerometer. The LTPO display supports the Always On function, and the watch itself can be switched to a power saving mode, which increases the operating time from a single charge from 18 to 36 hours.
The case of Apple Watch 8 is protected from accidental ingress of water and dust (IP68), and the touch OLED (LTPO) screen is covered with shockproof protective glass. The Wi-Fi module, like last year, can operate at a frequency of 5 GHz, built-in NFC can be used for contactless payments. The gadget keeps statistics on the quality of sleep, collects medical health indicators (including determining the level of blood oxygen saturation and making an ECG). Fans of outdoor activities and extreme sports will appreciate the built-in altimeter, compass, barometer and GPS module.
The eighth-generation lineup includes the classic Apple Watch with an aluminium case, a premium version with a steel case, and a sports version from Nike with a waterproof silicone strap. As always, the user can choose between 41mm and 45mm models with different color options and straps. Models with a built-in LTE receiver support e-SIM so the watch can be used as an alternative to a smartphone for voice calls and text messaging.
