In 2022, Apple expanded its range of new products and released three smartwatch models at once, including the second generation Apple Watch SE. This is the cheapest version of the trio and lacks some features but has everything you need for everyday use, health and activity monitoring.

The 40mm version will be a good choice for women due to its neat appearance, small size and weight of only 26g. That is, when worn daily, the watch is almost not felt on the hand. The gadget is equipped with an aluminium case of a classic rectangular shape for Apple, a bright Retina LTPO OLED touch display with rounded edges and Ion-X protective glass and a standard wheel on the side for control. A big plus is that the manufacturer offers many different versions: you can choose the right color, strap material and even the type of clasp - for any outfit, activity or mood. Water resistance allows you to swim in the pool or the sea without removing the device, but does not provide for diving to great depths and water sports. But the functions of the always-on Always-On screen are not here, unfortunately.

Health & Fitness

When it comes to health tracking, the Apple Watch SE 2 falls short of the latest Apple Watch 8 and Apple Watch Ultra. The watch does not know how to do an ECG, measure the level of oxygen in the blood and body temperature. They only have an optical heart rate monitor that detects heart rate and pulse problems. In addition, the gadget tracks a large number of types of physical activity, monitors sleep, stress levels and the female cycle. True, without a temperature sensor, this is just a female calendar, without the ability to predict the period of ovulation.

Although this is not a rugged model, it can be a great help during hiking and outdoor activities: there is a GPS module, maps, compass, altimeter and barometer. And the accelerometer and gyroscope provide fall detection: if the user becomes ill and falls, the device will detect this, call emergency services and notify selected contacts. In addition, in 2022, Apple introduced a new Crash Detection feature that detects car accidents. In this case, the algorithm of actions is the same as for falls: calling rescuers, communicating with emergency contacts and transmitting coordinates. But the fall detection and Crash Detection function does not work in all countries.

Performance and autonomy

The smartwatch is based on the Apple S8 processor – exactly the same is installed in the Apple Watch 8. Therefore, there are definitely no problems with performance: the device works smartly and will not become obsolete even after a few years. It also has everything you need for comfortable everyday use: duplication of incoming messages, notifications and calls, the ability to answer calls (speaker and microphone to help), Siri voice assistant, built-in player and Apple Pay contactless payment. The manufacturer claims 18 hours of battery life on a single charge, but with not too active use (notifications on, average screen brightness, limited sensor operation), the battery can last one and a half to two days. Of course, the included GPS significantly reduces this time. But there is a power saving mode that disables some background processes and increases autonomy up to several days.

In general, the watch received many of the functions of older models, but at the same time they are significantly cheaper. Although, compared to devices from other companies, they are definitely not budget. Therefore, we can recommend them to those buyers who are looking for an inexpensive gadget to work in conjunction with the iPhone.
