For the MTE series, the Taiwanese manufacturer Transcend chooses relatively simple, but at the same time quite fast and high-capacity M.2 SSDs based on TLC class memory. Most of them are simple M.2 modules with budget controllers, without RGB lighting, additional cooling and stock software for monitoring and backup. According to the manufacturer's idea, this line is an interesting option when the user decides to upgrade an outdated HDD or SSD, but does not want to overpay for unnecessary functions.


Between 2020 and 2023, Transcend released about ten fairly similar drives that differ in size and version of the PCIe interface. All of them are made in the M.2 form factor and connect to the corresponding slot in a PC, laptop or game console. Some of the models belong to the already familiar 22x80 format, while others are made in the more modern ultrabook format 22x42 and 22x30.

The difference lies in the data exchange interface - some drives use the outdated PCIe 3.0 bus, others use the faster PCIe 4.0 interface with an average read speed of 6000 to 7200 MB/s. Some of the fastest models are equipped with a heatsink to help keep the control controller from overheating. As for the available storage volumes, most models are available in 256, 512 and 1000 GB versions, but in some cases the maximum volume can reach 2 or 4 TB.
