— this function is indicated for machines designed to perform squats with additional weights. There are three types of these models. The first is cable machines (mainly cable crossover and all-in-one machines, where the load is provided by the fact that the athlete holds the handles from the cables passed to the weights through the lower blocks. This is a fairly effective and safe technique, but it creates an additional load on the muscles of the arms and shoulders (due to the need to hold the handles), and also requires the athlete to pay more attention to the technique. The second option is Smith machines (see "Product type") used for barbell squats. One of their advantages is the movement of the load along a fixed trajectory, which makes it easier to maintain the correct technique and gives additional safety compared to a conventional barbell without a Smith machine. The third variety is Hack squat machines, which were designed for squats. In addition to a fixed trajectory of movement, they have a number of other advantages — in particular, the optimal distribution of the load (due to which it affects mainly the legs, with a minimum load on other parts of the body and unnecessary discomfort) and safety during exercise (most Hack squat machines can be used no assistant).
As for the purpose of squats, initially, they are an isolating exercise train mainly on the quadriceps of the thigh. However, Smith machines also provide a load on the buttocks, and Hack squat machines actually turn the isolating exercise into a complex one, connecting almost all the muscles of the legs, as well as part of the back and the press, into the work.
