According to the manufacturer, it is the world's first M.2 SSD with a hybrid PCIe interface, capable of operating in x4 PCIe 4.0 and x2 PCIe 5.0 modes.

And as a basis, it uses 133-layer V6P TLC NAND flash memory of its own production, which is characterized by increased reliability and decent I/O performance. Thanks to the use of Host Memory Buffer (HMB) technology for direct connection to the processor's DRAM, the drive does not suffer from speed drops during long-term use, even without using a DRAM buffer. Well, the low heating of the controller and a significant reduction in energy efficiency (approx: 70% lower compared to the previous generation EVO) made it possible to get rid of an external heatsink and minimize battery consumption when used in laptops and ultrabooks.

Belonging to the universal M.2 2280 format allows you to equally successfully use Samsung’s brainchild in powerful work PCs, compact ultrabooks and portable game consoles. All these factors make the Samsung 970 EVO an interesting option for the role of a universal system drive, a high-speed archive or a game library. In addition to the 2 TB version, the manufacturer announced a more affordable version of the Samsung 990 EVO with 1 TB of memory.
