SPEED! Still, Samsung SSDs are top-notch, yes they cost more than others on the market, but they're worth it. The price has skyrocketed, I wanted to get the same one with 2TB to completely replace the noisy HDD, but the price for it is already 400-500 EUR, not cool. |
I installed the Samsung 990 PRO MZ-V9P1T0GW, and it really is one of the best SSDs you can get right now. It comes with a built-in heatsink out of the box, so everything is stable in terms of temperature — even under load, it remains consistently fast and doesn't throttle. The performance is excellent: apps open without any delay, and games load quickly. It feels like the level of quality you expect from Samsung — reliable, fast, and without surprises. The only downside is the price. It's not a budget option, but if you need a truly top-notch drive that will last long and won't slow down, here it is in front of you. Since I installed it, a few new firmware updates have already arrived. It's great that the company supports their product after release. The Samsung Magician app is quite handy once you get the hang of their submenus (although they've overcomplicated things a bit with the latest version). Overall, if you need a fast, reliable SSD with good support and a long warranty, you should go for Samsung. Is it worth paying extra for the heatsink? I don't think so, there are more efficient solutions on the market now than Samsung's standard one. It doesn't overheat, but it takes a while to cool down, even though my case is in the Airflow style. Performance, quality, warranty, radiator. the price is higher than for analogues |
Top SSD PCIe 4.0 x4, took 2TB, completely satisfied The stability of performance, data transfer speed, even when the disk is 88% full, delivers excellent speed. No shortcomings were found. |

The most advanced PCIe 4.0 class SSD?
Although Samsung is no longer the leader in innovation in the SSD market, its products are still respected and reach the top of sales and recommendations. At the end of 2023, the 990 PRO drive was released, which claims to be one of the fastest SSDs with a PCIe 4.0 interface. Its maximum read speed reaches 7450 MB/s, and write speed – 6900 MB/s. This is a 40% increase in recording speed compared to its predecessor Samsung 980 PRO.
Improvements in all respects
The 990 PRO has significantly improved IOPS performance when working with 4K blocks: up to 1,550 thousand IOPS when writing and 1,200 thousand when reading. This speed increase is useful for working with databases, media files, data virtualization, etc. In games, this increase speeds up loading times, for example, the world of Forspoken loads in just one second.
Welcome back!
The key improvements were 176-layer flash memory from Samsung and the new Samsung Pascal controller, made using an 8-nanometer process technology. Instead of moving to PCIe 5.0, engineers focused on optimizing the Pascal controller, improving the TurboWrite hybrid cache and increasing efficiency per watt by 50% compared to the 980 PRO. The controller does not heat up above 72°C under intense loads. Overall, the Samsung 990 PRO is a serious SSD that puts it ahead of most of the competition.

There's one thing that surprised me a bit — the gadget gets warmer than I expected. It's not critical. I think, for maximum comfort, it's better to either get a model without a heatsink and install custom cooling.
But there's a charm in this heatsink: it looks stylish, there's no "bare" module, and, honestly, it hasn't reached the point of worrying about temperature — everything works steadily, nothing throttles or decreases speed.
For everyday use, gaming, or working with large files — it's a good choice. It feels fast and reliable, and even if it heats up a bit more than you'd like, it doesn't spoil the overall impression.
