I got the grey one cheaper, at the bottom. Original, everything works as it should. Top-notch stuff for a new build.

Samsung returns to the SSD race

After a two-year break, Samsung, once the undisputed leader of the SSD market, has unveiled a truly cutting-edge Gen5 drive, the 9100 PRO. The model’s key feature is Samsung’s in-house energy-efficient and relatively cool PCIe 5.0 controller, Samsung Presto, which has managed to outperform the popular Phison E26 in both speed and stability.

In-house 236-layer flash memory

The 9100 series uses proprietary 236-layer flash memory. The 2 TB version boasts impressive figures: up to 14,700 MB/s read and 13,400 MB/s write — practically the limit for the PCIe 5.0 bus. IOPS are also impressive: 2.6 million write and 1.85 million read. There’s also a 2 GB DRAM buffer and support for TCG Opal 2.0 encryption. In both synthetic and real-world tests, the drive delivered outstanding results, maintaining high performance even under load. At the same time, it features moderate power consumption and stable operation without throttling, thanks to a compact heatsink.

Excellent price-to-performance ratio

The only caveat is that competitors haven’t been idle: barely had the 9100 PRO earned the title of best PCIe 5.0 SSD when models with the Silicon Motion SM2508 controller and even higher speeds hit the market — for example, the Kingston Fury Renegade G5 or the Crucial T710. However, Samsung’s pricing is now noticeably more balanced, and the new model’s cost is practically no different from its counterparts.
