True to its name, one of the most popular uses of this feature is to send video over the Internet, for example when chatting via Skype or for live webcasting. However, in addition to this, the webcam can be used for other purposes – for example, for recording videos or even for specific tasks like recognizing users by face.

The advantages of built-in webcams are that they (unlike separate ones) do not take up extra space and are always in the right place; the user does not need to think about how to secure the webcam and whether it will fall. On the other hand, when purchasing such monitor, the user has to rely on the manufacturer’s choice, while separate webcam can be selected to suit his preferences, and there are usually no problems with its installation and securing. Also this function significantly affects the price of the monitor. Therefore, very few solutions with built-in webcams are produced.
