— device for recognizing the user's face.We emphasize that in this case we are talking not just about “identification by photograph”, but about building full-fledged three-dimensional model based on data from an IR scanner. Such scanner, along with backlight system, is usually installed above the screen, next to the webcam. It is used mainly for user authentication — when logging into the OS (for example, using the Windows Hello biometric system that supports this authorization method), when logging into particular account, when authorizing payments, etc. At the same time, this method even more reliable than fingerprint scanner — IR cameras take into account many individual features of the face, and the probability of false positives is much lower. However, such systems also have weaknesses — this is primarily the recognition of twins, as well as children under 13 – 14 years old, who still have relatively few individual facial features.
There are other ways to use the scanner, in addition to authorization — for example, real-time facial recognition and duplication of this facial expression on painted face or muzzle of an animal.
