— matrices based on organic light emitting diodes (OLED). The key feature of such screens is that in them each pixel is source of light in itself (unlike classic LCD screens, where the image-forming film is complemented by separately made backlight). This gives number of advantages: excellent brightness, contrast and colour reproduction, rich blacks, the widest viewing angles and the small thickness of the screens themselves. On the other hand, OLED matrices have rather high power consumption (which is especially critical for laptops), and as they wear out, they are prone to uneven burnout (the more often and brighter pixel glows, the faster it loses its properties). Yes, and these screens are much more expensive than the same IPS. Therefore, this technology, despite all its advantages, is not yet popular in laptops.
