JBL Free headphones were the first attempt by JBL to make comfortable and at the same time completely wireless true wireless headphones for athletes. In 2017, the first model was released, 2 years later JBL released their "tuned" version of JBL Free X, and in 2021, a full-fledged update in the face of JBL Free II arrived on the shelves of stores.

All models are similar to each other, but differ in details. JBL Free X is a classic wireless earplugs with water protection, specialized sports functions and a set of additional silicone nozzles for athletes. As with the JBL Under Armour models, each JBL Free X earphone has a universal mechanical button for controlling the player, calls and voice assistant.

The JBL Free II that replaced them work via Bluetooth 5.0 protocol and are equipped with a USB-C port instead of the usual USB A. Otherwise, it is a similar model with IPX4 water protection and 6 hours of battery life. Both headphones are equipped with separate talking microphones and are connected to the source separately, so they can be used in both stereo and mono mode. They sound in the best traditions of JBL: the sound is warm and assertive, but slightly muted and with an abundance of bass. And the price is slightly cheaper than models from the JBL Under Armour series.
