This feature creates a powerful immersive effect and allows you to accurately determine the direction to a particular sound source by ear; such features are especially appreciated by gamers, so most multi-channel headphones are created for gaming (see "Suitable for").

Note that a full-fledged surround sound, where each channel has its own emitter, is rarely found in headphones due to complexity and high cost. Virtual multi-channel sound technologies are used much more often: they allow to achieve a similar effect with a simpler and more affordable design of the headphones themselves.
