— the full size composite input is combined interface for both analogue video and audio. The signal is transmitted over three wires, with one completely transmitting the video signal, and the remaining two — two stereo channels; each wire is usually provided with an RCA connector. In this form, the composite interface is the most complete among the popular analogue standards: it allows you to work with both audio and video at the same time. On the other hand, due to the transmission of video signal over single wire, its quality is quite modest, and there is no question of working with high resolutions. Also note that in monitors (especially those without built-in speakers), the composite input can consist of only one connector — for the video signal.
In general, given the described features, this interface can be called technically outdated. At the same time, it is still quite common even in modern video equipment, not to mention earlier equipment. And in some specialized devices (for example, car DVRs), composite connection is not generally accepted standard. So for connecting to computer, such connector is not useful, but for some specific tasks it may be indispensable.
