Outdated Product
High-performance mid-range graphics card with 8 GB of high-speed GDDR5 graphics memory, efficient cooling system and the ability to connect up to 4 monitors simultaneously. It is positioned as a competitor for the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card equipped with 6 GB of memory. On average, it shows a similar level of gaming performance, is able to provide comfortable gameplay in current game projects of 2015-2018 at a resolution of 1920x1080 and high graphics quality settings. Built on the basis of an improved printed circuit board, created using the element base of increased reliability of the MIL-STD-810G standard (Military Class 4 concept). Equipped with an AMD Polaris 20 XTX GPU (2034 stream processors and 144 texture units) that works with memory over a 256-bit bus. The MSI RX 580...ARMOR 8G graphics card generates up to 185 W of heat and for its removal / dissipation, a dual-fan cooling system Armor 2X, built on the basis of heat pipes, is provided. For greater acoustic comfort, it supports Zero Frozr technology, which completely stops the fans when idle. For normal operation of the card, a high-quality power supply with a rated power of at least 500 W and the connection of one additional PCI-E 8-pin power line is required. There are five digital interface ports for displaying images on a monitor/TV - 1xDVD-D (up to 2560x1440), 2xDisplayPort 1.4 (up to 7680x4320 pixels) and 2xHDMI 2.0b (up to 3840x2160).

Fine tuning with MSI Afterburner

The almost top-end RX 580 line does not have the highest potential for overclocking, since the chip and memory are already operating at frequencies close to the limit. It is physically impossible to squeeze an additional 15–20% out of it. In the case of the Armor version from MSI, we have a small factory core overclock to 1366 MHz and a useful MSI Afterburner utility, in which you can select the desired operating mode, and the card itself will deftly adjust the frequencies depending on the load and core temperature. Therefore, fiddling with manual voltage settings and increasing frequencies is not really necessary here.

Sensitive cooling system

The same applies to the cooling system, which is sensitive to the dynamics of temperature changes and is highly dependent on the selected operating mode. For example, when the ZeroFrozr function is activated, coolers will switch to silent mode if the temperature does not exceed 35°C. At peak load, the coolers start to make decent noise, but they keep a rather hot chip within 75°C.

Strong graphics card without weak points

In general, this is a solid graphics card without any weaknesses or pronounced advantages, which takes its toll in the first place by the price. Among all the RX 580 models, only modifications from Sapphire are cheaper. And its direct competitor in the face of the GTX 1060 will cost about the same money, but it will have 6 GB of video memory instead of 8. Therefore, when choosing, you should rely primarily on market availability and personal preferences.
