The specific capabilities of cartography systems may vary, but such systems, anyway, have a positive effect on the efficiency of movement and the quality of cleaning. So, even the simplest models with this feature can at least remember the route travelled and take it into account during further movement to minimize repeated passes through already cleaned areas. More advanced units may provide the formation of a map of a room, or even an apartment/house, with walls and obstacles marked on it. In some models (usually with the function of control via the Internet, see the relevant paragraph), it is even possible to edit this map by the user himself — for example, by manually setting restricted areas or laying specific routes. All these nuances should be clarified separately.

Also note that modern robots can use different ways of building maps and further navigate through them. Thus, the use of special sensors (inertia, shock, fall) is inexpensive and provides good accuracy but does not allow you to respond in advance to changes in the situation and forms only a conditional disturbance scheme. A digital camera, on the contrary, provides a reliable image and the ability to respond to a changed situation but does not differ in accuracy. The laser rangefinder combines the advantages of both previous methods but is not cheap; for added convenience, it can be supplemented with a camera. The specific type of mapping system should also be specified separately. Usually, this point is directly related to the overall level of the vacuum cleaner.
