Two rotating mops for wet cleaning. Lifting mops when moving onto carpets. Retractable brush for cleaning in corners.

The Dreame company's robot vacuum is an advanced solution for automated home cleaning. It can simultaneously pick up dry debris and mop floors, thereby reducing the time spent on cleaning. With a high suction power of 11000 Pa, the robot effectively cleans both hard floor surfaces and shag carpets. For dry cleaning, it uses a side brush that extends beyond the body to thoroughly collect debris along walls and in corners, and a main turbo brush with a hair and pet fur anti-tangle system.

For wet cleaning, there are two soft fabric pad disks. During operation, they press tightly against the floor and spin at high speed, imitating manual floor mopping. One of the disks, like the side brush, extends sideways to better clean areas near baseboards and furniture. The Dreame L40 Ultra comes with a multifunctional docking station that not only charges the battery.

It is equipped with a 4.5-liter clean water tank, a 4-liter dirty water reservoir, and a 3.2-liter disposable bag. The station cleans the vacuum's dustbin by emptying debris into the bag, refills the water tank, washes the mop pads with hot water, and dries them with warm air to prevent mold and unpleasant odors. A special detergent is used for floor mopping and pad cleaning.

For navigation, the robot uses an intelligent RGB camera, a rangefinder, and numerous sensors. Thanks to these, it accurately creates room maps and optimal routes, recognizing obstacles and avoiding them. The built-in lighting allows it to operate even in dark rooms. The camera can also be used for video monitoring of pets and household activities. Additionally, users will appreciate the extended battery life (more than 3 hours on a single charge), the ability to save maps of multiple floors, and convenient control via a mobile app or voice assistants such as Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple Siri.

How to Choose a Robot Vacuum: For Houses, Apartments, Dry and Wet CleaningA complete guide to choosing a robot vacuum cleaner: features, navigation, cleaning stations, and tips.

Selection: To clarify, this is our first robot vacuum cleaner. I spent a long time choosing (I started thinking about it in 2022, but back then lidars were expensive, others got stuck and dragged socks, wet cleaning was just beginning its journey from a simple cloth to mops), I returned to the selection in June 2025 and chose among several Dreame, Roborock, and Xiaomi models. I need to clean ~48 m2, 50% parquet 50% tiles, two rugs 50*30, many pieces of furniture (tables, chairs), one threshold 18mm.
Price at the time of purchase 30,000 UAH (~725$)
Non-obvious nuances:
- I watched a million reviews, and only in the French (or Spanish) review was it clarified that the vacuum is visible on the map at which stage it is (because in cheaper 10 series it's indicated in the description), which was critical for me.
- Also, no review mentioned that in addition to the silicone turbo brush, the set includes a turbo brush with bristles and blades (better for carpets, sand, "long" dust) 2 versions (with orange color), I almost ordered it separately (2000 by the way).
- Be aware that there are also 40L Ultra AE, 40L Ultra CE versions - they do NOT have a retractable side brush, different power levels on paper, and possibly other configuration differences).
- The vacuum has LED lighting (sometimes forgotten to be mentioned), which helps when cleaning under the bed.
Now I start it in the morning for dry cleaning of all rooms (21 m2 cleaned area in 25 minutes) and periodically full (dry + immediately wet without kitchen and bathroom 28m2 43 min - this is the first time, it may be faster, I'll check).
Selection Criteria
- Dry + wet cleaning with mops
- One of the mops is retractable
- Retractable side brush (just a pile of dust/hair under the baseboard)
- Base with trash bin, mop washing, and drying
- Navigation with normal obstacle recognition (cables, socks, toys)
- Schedule settings, cleaning programs, restricted zones
- Ability to see on the map where the vacuum is and at what cleaning stage

Preferably:
- Brush with bristles and blades (although there are almost no carpets, there is hair, fur, sometimes sand in the hallway)
- Video transmission capability
- Power reserve

Everything in the criteria, the vacuum does excellently (so all of this can be added to the advantages)
Disadvantages (somewhat relative and subjective):

- No mesh in front of the HEPA filter
- Software nuances (for example, sent it to clean the kitchen, it wet the mops, then left the base, and only then realized there's a virtual wall in the kitchen, so it went back to the base to clean and dry the mops)
- Cannot set up video for now (possibly related to the dual-band access point)
- The first time the brush wasn't fastened properly, the robot dragged it for a few meters but didn't give an error (note that it wasn't during cleaning but map building)
- Carried a small light foot mat a bit, had to stick silicone to the carpet
- Once bumped into the bed leg while reversing to sweep the carpet (well, in my opinion, once is acceptable)
