It is usually carried out as follows: with the tube installed, the vacuum cleaner works in an upright format, and when the tube is removed, it turns into a portable device. Another option is noticeably less common: the main unit is located in the lower part of the structure, there is no tube as such, and the transformation occurs due to the installation and removal of the upper handle.

Vacuum cleaners from this category combine the advantages and capabilities of upright and handheld household models (see the relevant paragraphs). They turn out to be very versatile: the same unit can be used for general floor cleaning and for specific tasks such as cleaning furniture or car interiors. At the same time, such versatility is not so expensive. Therefore, combined models nowadays are much more popular than conventional upright and handheld household vacuum cleaners. However, note that the performance and capacity of the dust collector for units of the "upright with handheld" type are most often relatively low.
