A large long-range "gun" with an eye to work in conjunction with mirrorless cameras of the Sony E-mount and Leica SL-mount systems. The lens shoots at focal lengths from 100 to 400 mm. In the course of zooming, a rather sickly “trunk” leaves its body, and the maximum aperture changes from f / 5.0 to f / 6.3. A possible lack of aperture compensates for an optical stub with a claimed efficiency of up to 4 exposure or exposure steps.

There are two modes of image stabilization, for which there is a special slider on the body of the model. Also in the design of the Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS is a stepper motor system for focus, optimized for shooting video with hybrid autofocus.
