The wide-angle zoom lens is part of the Sigma Contemporary affordable optics line, designed for mirrorless cameras with an APS-C format image sensor. Initially, the model was available for Sony E, Fujifilm X, and Leica SL mountings, and in fall 2024, it was also released for the Canon RF-S system. The Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 Contemporary DC DN features a compact design with a body length of 62mm and a weight of about 260g.

The optical formula of the model includes 13 elements in 10 groups, and it has a 7-blade diaphragm. The lens is claimed to have minimal "focus breathing," making it a suitable choice for video shooting. The wide-angle zoom focuses from a distance of 11.6 cm, utilizing a stepping motor for the autofocus system. The lens can also be mounted on motorized gimbals. The model is compatible with traditional circular filters with a diameter of 67mm, designed to be mounted on the corresponding thread at the front of the frame.
