Model overview based on user reviews
The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 Contemporary DC DN lens is highly praised for its excellent sharpness and beautiful bokeh, especially at a wide aperture of f/1.4. Users appreciate its fast and quiet autofocus, making it suitable for both photography and video. The lens is well-built, feels sturdy, and offers a great price-to-quality ratio, making it a popular choice among amateur photographers. However, some users note that the autofocus can slow down in cold weather and lacks image stabilization. Despite these minor drawbacks, the lens is considered indispensable for its high luminosity and optical performance, particularly in portrait photography. Overall, it is a versatile and affordable option for those using Sony, Olympus, Panasonic, or Fuji systems.

It has become an indispensable and favorite lens. It has paid for itself with all the money spent on it.

I really wanted a fast prime lens. Sony lenses are very expensive. Yes, they are good, but I wasn't ready to pay 2-3 times the price of this Sigma. I bought the Sigma. To this day, I haven't regretted it once. It truly shines in portrait photography. Even despite its modest focal length, it has decent bokeh. It particularly loves a bright background and not being too close. You get crystal clear balls, oval, with a twisting effect outward. Just perfect for artistic portraits. The autofocus is very fast. But there's a slight issue with wide apertures. It sticks and hunts a bit. At f/2.8, this doesn't happen. Also, it didn't perform very reliably in winter, as in the cold, the autofocus works much slower than it should. In reality, the lens has become indispensable. Almost always very sharp, otherwise just sharp. I can't say it's compact, but it's light. The body and overall lens are very well manufactured. The motor is almost silent. It shoots videos well. The focus ring is smooth and wide. Convenient in manual mode. I am very satisfied with the purchase. It has become my primary lens. Sometimes I don't even switch to a zoom lens, even when it would be much more convenient. I prefer image quality over convenience.
Magical bokeh, especially at a 1.4 aperture. Despite everything, it has all working aperture modes, even 1.4. It is well-built and feels good in the hand. Nothing rattles, everything fits perfectly. In regular mode, the autofocus works very fast. Additionally, it is almost silent. So, shooting video is not a problem. The price is very reasonable compared to the original optics.
In cold weather (winter), the autofocus may slow down. It starts to focus slowly or stops working entirely.

The lenses of the Comtemporary series from the Japanese company Sigma are aimed at amateur photographers and do not particularly stand out from their peers with outstanding optical characteristics. However, this did not prevent the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary fixed lens from taking first place in the podium of the best optics for Sony mirrorless cameras in 2016 (according to the authoritative resource DxOMark).

High luminosity

In the version for the Micro 4/3 system, the equivalent focal length of the fixed lens is 60 mm. This means that it can handle both everyday scenes and more complex portrait photography. No joke, the model is the most aperture-fast in the budget optics class, and also captivates with its 9-blade diaphragm structure. Thanks to such data, it is possible to effectively separate the subject from the background and get fabulous bokeh with smooth "rounds" in the out-of-focus area.

Character of the drawing

The aperture of f/1.4 is quite workable for the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary. However, the image when shooting at an open aperture can be spoiled by vignetting, and the autofocus system sometimes stubbornly refuses to catch objects in the distance. It is enough to cover up to f/1.8 — and all problems are reduced to “nothing”. The picture literally “rings” with sharpness at any settings up to f/8.

Stepper drive

The autofocus system of the fixed lens is driven by a stepper drive, which ensures smooth focusing during video recording and fast focusing during photo shooting. If we take into account the Micro 4/3 system, then given the price and the nature of the design, there is simply no equal to the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary.
