The full-frame pioneer in the model lineup of mirrorless cameras from the Canon EOS R system, now has a second-generation version. The model with the Mark II suffix has increased the number of megapixels (from 20 to 24.2 MP) and significantly upgraded its autofocus with intelligent object recognition algorithms. Now, the camera can shoot bursts at speeds of up to 40 fps (using the electronic shutter) and record 4K video at 60 fps without crop (via oversampling from 6K).

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II body supports video shooting in Canon Log 3 with internal recording up to 4:2:2 10-bit in H.264 or H.265 formats. Photos and videos are saved to SD UHS-II memory cards, for which two slots are provided here. There is a possibility for outputting video in 6K RAW format to an external recorder. The camera's Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system includes 1053 points and covers 100% of the frame.

Autofocus is capable of detecting the heads, faces, and eyes of people, animals, and vehicles. The mirrorless camera also features an in-body image stabilization system with an effectiveness of up to 8 stops in shutter speed or exposure. The model is equipped with a 0.5-inch OLED viewfinder with a high resolution of 3.69 million dots and a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, as well as a tilting 3-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1.62 million pixels. The camera body is dust and moisture resistant, constructed on a magnesium alloy chassis. A fully charged battery should provide enough power for approximately 360 shots. In the Body configuration, the camera is supplied without a lens — you will need to purchase a suitable lens separately.

Video reviews

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II is suitable for both photographers and videographers. Externally, the camera is practically no different from the previous R6 model, but internally it has undergone significant changes.

Full frame sensor

The key innovation in this mirrorless camera is the new 24.2 MP full-frame image sensor. Despite the absence of a multilayer structure and back illumination, the speed of reading data from the matrix is significantly increased. This allows the camera to shoot bursts of photos at up to 40 frames per second when using the electronic shutter, while maintaining full resolution and RAW format. Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus now recognizes not only eyes and faces, but also dogs, cats, birds, horses, cars, motorcycles, trains and airplanes in the frame.

Video filming

The camera is capable of shooting video in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second across the entire sensor area. Continuous shooting in this mode is available for up to 40 minutes. The camera supports Canon Log 3 and internal recording in 4:2:2 10-bit formats using H.264 or H.265. When connecting an external recorder, you can record 6K RAW video. Photos and videos are saved to UHS-II class SD memory cards, which have two separate slots.

Stabilization system

The camera is equipped with a matrix image stabilization system, which ensures shooting stability up to 8 stops of shutter speed or exposure. The camera also features a high-resolution OLED viewfinder with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, a 3-inch tilting touchscreen display, and a dust- and water-resistant body. The camera's memory buffer capacity may be slightly smaller than advertised, but this may only become apparent during very fast continuous shooting using the electronic shutter. Switching to a mechanical shutter avoids this problem.
