Dust protection 5 stands for "dust resistance": the case is not completely impermeable to contaminants, however, they get inside in small quantities and are not capable of harming the electronic hardware. And water resistance 8 means that the device can be submerged under water to a depth of more than 1 m, stay there for more than 30 minutes and, usually, allows use directly under water (for example, pressing buttons). Specific restrictions on depth, dive time and underwater functionality may be different, they need to be specified separately. However, if you plan to dive to the depths or scuba dive, it is worth choosing a gadget suitable for this activity among models with water protection 8. However it is worth considering that not every such device normally tolerates strong jets of water; so the possibility of using it when surfing, jumping into the water, riding a jet ski, etc. also will be wise to find out separately.

Also, we note that IP58 is a rather rare combination: a completely waterproof case usually turns out to be dustproof as well, so the IP68 option has become more common.
