— "Classic" AV receivers are the most fully-featured type of such devices. They can act as a player and independently, without external devices, play multimedia content, equipped with built-in amplifiers, as well as an extensive set of tools for processing video and audio. It is this versatility that distinguishes receivers from more specialized AV amplifiers and processors (in fact, they combine the capabilities of both these types).
