Under the flags of the Air Dynamic series, the Japanese brand Audio-Technica launches open-type audiophile over-ear headphones that should return people to the love of listening to music at home. In the hierarchy of the brand, they occupy one of the leading positions, anticipating most studio models ATH-M and ATH-PRO and second only to the hi-end Art Monitor headphones and experimental versions with exotic wood bowls.
All representatives of the series have a similar design with a massive stretchable arc, a tight but comfortable headband and perforated grilles that cover the drivers from the outside. Then the differences begin. For example, the ATH-AD900x uses a dual air damping system. And in the flagship Audio-Technica ATH-AD2000X, a more complex magnetic system made of an alloy of iron, cobalt and vanadium is used, thanks to which the developers were able to expand the upper limit of the reproducible frequency range. Together with the design of the speakers, it is these things that cause a big difference in price between the younger and older Air Dynamic headphones.
All models use similar 53" dynamic drivers and CCAW coils with copper-clad aluminium strands. According to engineers, this material solves the key problem of massive drivers associated with the large mass of the moving system. A CCAW coil is lighter than a regular coil but has the same electrical conductivity. Depending on the version of the headphones, the coils use different geometry and winding methods, which affected the impedance and power of the emitters. However, the difference is not great and should not affect the final choice.
