The AVC / AVA line from the Japanese from Audio-Technica includes exclusively full-size dynamic closed-type headphones, which stand out for their high build quality, rich sound and affordable price tags. When creating this line, Audio-Technica engineers were inspired by classic on-ear headphones, for which comfort and sound quality are a priority, and secondary things are relegated to the background, as they should be.
This is perhaps most evident in the Audio-Technica ATH-AVC500 model, which occupies the highest position in the hierarchy of this family. These headphones feature massive 53mm dynamic neodymium drivers and copper-clad aluminium CCAW voice coils. Usually CCAW coils are used in A-class models, for $100 headphones this is nonsense. And the dimensions of the drivers are impressive. Typically, headphones of this class have smaller dynamic drivers with a standard response over the entire frequency range. With a resistance of 32 ohms, the Audio-Technica ATH-AVC500 is capable of sounding frequencies from 18 to 25,000 Hz.
The smaller models ATH-AVA400 and ATH-AVC200 follow the same path, using the same copper-clad aluminium CCAW coils, but due to low-cost constraints, they have slightly smaller drivers - 40 mm. Because of this, the lower models of this line do not sound as assertive as the ATH-AVC500, but still leave most of the competitors in the sub-$100 range out of work. According to the manufacturer, all this makes AVC / AVA headphones an excellent option for a home multimedia centre.
