— the presence of at least one USB-C port on the PC with Alternate Mode support. In line with its name, Alternate Mode represents an alternative operation mode for the Type C port, where it is used for connection interfaces other than USB. The specific set of these interfaces can vary and should be specified for each model separately. The most characteristic example is Thunderbolt v3, which by definition operates through a USB-C hardware port. The Thunderbolt specification also includes support for DisplayPort; however, this video output can be implemented through USB-C independently, without Thunderbolt functionality. HDMI is also among the most popular Alternate Mode options — both in the classic version and the "mobile" MHL version (the latter, however, is more typical for smartphones and other pocket-sized devices rather than PCs).
